Gratitude!

Why Are You Grateful?
Why Are You Grateful?

As my sister celebrated her milestone birthday this month, I am reflecting on the aspects of life for which we can be grateful - things we often take for granted. I listened to the Brooklyn Choir song about thanks: https://youtu.be/nIB7iXkpAk0?si=p52VfC_0X_zeI6DS. We may think of birthdays as a natural part of life until something unexpected occurs.

With age, I have developed a deep appreciation for the magnificent machines that God has created in us. My nursing background has allowed me to witness firsthand how faithful God is in helping us cope with any illness that might afflict the body. The human body is truly resilient!

I am amazed that there are no tune-up shops at the end of our blocks or off the highways waiting for us after we've walked a million steps or traveled between 7,500 to 10,000 miles, much like AAA recommends for synthetic oil changes for cars. Our bodies are incredibly complex machines, as highlighted in the article "Human Body as Machine" from the Yale School of Medicine, Human body as machine < Yale School of Medicine.

In January 2025, devastating fires suddenly struck California due to high winds. Homes disappeared overnight, and lives changed in an instant. Have we taken the time to thank God for the homes or apartments we still have? Are we praying for those who were affected? Did we contribute to any reputable organizations that were assisting?

Are we making it a priority to regularly connect with our families and friends? It is so easy to get caught up in our busy schedules that we often forget to make time for the people we care about. Planning moments to enjoy the company of those in our circles can really enrich our lives and strengthen our relationships. Taking that time not only fosters connection but also helps us appreciate the blessings we have in our lives.

Recent events involving flooding, hurricanes, and tornadoes have also taken a toll on the lives of many. Again, are we praying, donating to trustworthy causes, or sending supportive messages to those in need on various platforms?

Gratefulness is a choice. It is an insightful view of the world. Join me in the conversation online.
