Matthew 2: 8-12, 16: King Herod sent the wise men to Bethlehem to search diligently for the young child, Jesus. He advised the wise men to bring him word back, so that he would worship him too. Lo, they saw the star of the east. It went before them until it came over where the young child was.
When they saw the star they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when the were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto Him gifts: gold, and frankincense (oil that can boost the immune system). They did not return to King Herod after receiving a warning from God in a dream.
When Herod realized that the wise men did not come back; he felt mocked. He was angry and sent forth to slay all the children that were in Bethlehem, and all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time that King Herod diligently inquired with the wise men.
Note well: The wise men sought the young child, Jesus diligently and conscientiously. We have an opportunity to seek God in the same way. As we approach Christmas, our hearts are more open to hear different things. Also, the wise men had exceeding great joy. Know that Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us not to sorrow, because the joy of the Lord is our strength.
